You know, it’s already the last part of October here in San Diego and (sorry for those living where it really does feel like fall) I’m getting sick of the heat! It’s been in the high 70’s or 80’s every day. That’s all well and good if this was the summer and the water wasn’t absolutely freezing, but the pools and oceans are icy!
That little vent out of the way, here are some of my favorite things about fall:
Going to the pumpkin patch! We head out to a big Nut farm in one of the more rural nearby cities. They have hay rides, a hay maze, and plenty of animals to check out. Plus, some of their pumpkins are ENORMOUS!
Seasonal coffee mugs. I’m getting quite the collection going here.
Windy days. And boy has it been windy! That, mixed with the dry air, makes for frizzy hair and dangerous fire conditions. But when you are indoors it’s relaxing to watch those big trees sway peacefully.
Apples and all things baked with apple. I was especially excited to try this apple coffee cake for a work potluck last Friday. Yum!
Halloween costumes. My Big Boy is going to be “a hot dog with pimp jewelry”. Groannn… But the girls are going as adorable princesses. Pink or purple to match their earrings, of course.
The scent of cinnamon. I don’t know why, but cinnamon candles just don’t give the same home-y feel when they’re lit in July or March. I’ve been burning cinnamon candles at night when it cools down. Don’t you just think it feels cozy when your house smells good?
School. I’m such a nerd teacher, here we are over 2 months into the start of the school year and I’m still excited like it’s the first day.
Youth football. It’s almost over, but this season of Pop Warner has been hugely successful. Our little podunk, small-town team almost went undefeated this season! Go Warriors!
Pumpkin Pie. I can’t make or buy any because, as long as the whipped cream lasts, I’ll eat the.whole.thing.
Soups and stews. I’ve had the crock pot going at least once a week lately, but it’s mostly been chicken in one form or another. I can’t wait to come up with some new recipes when the weather cools down!
Shorter days. I’m too old to keep up with too many hours of busy daylight.
Watching You’ve Got Mail. I know it’s an oldie, but the setting is New York in the late fall and winter. The sets are all so festive!
What are some of your fall faves? Will you share your thoughts in the comments, please? Thanks!
